Chapter 3 – Tucson to Gila National Forest

Sometimes when the kids are way too loud and driving everyone crazy, Dad likes to go outside and have a chat with our other three kids. They hardly scream or talk back.

So today started out at the Tucson RV park with heavy fog but soon turned into a straight freeway burn for a couple of hours.

We were headed to Silver City – home of Billy the Kid. The town was straight out of the old west - one store that sells only sewing machines & vacuum cleaners, the local bar and the occassional internet cafe. We didn't even bother to take pictures, except for roadside fun.

After Silver city, it was onto the Gila Hot Springs Vacation Resort for a day of relaxation. Oh, it can’t come soon enough.

Two hours up an isolated, winding dead end road with stunning views to 8,000 feet and we reached Gila Hot
Springs...Resort? Well, for $17 plus tax it’s not about those resort amenities. The shower, however, had piping-hot "hot spring" water so it was worth every penny. Oh, and there was a big pile of horse shit just outside the bathroom door. Glad no one was barefoot!

We took a walk to the Hot Springs - passed some sheep, goat, dogs & cats. And took a couple of photos before the sun went down.

Back to the RV for a bottle of red wine, leftover Mexican, and two kids who like to play. A lot.

This is Jamie before his shower with Mommy. Notice the punk rocker hair-do.

You always seem to know that you've done a good job when they are like this:
